Ah, let's take a look at this. The characters are completely different from their manga counterparts. The only redeeming factor is the art. But the story? Honestly, this was the most unpleasant read since Medaka Box. Just do yourself a favor and steer clear of this one-shot.
Also, I couldn't figure out if Vegeta was even the antagonist here, and what about Gohan—where was he? This feels like such a waste of the Dragon Ball universe. Why does Piccolo need a train when he can fly? Why is Krillin working as a conductor? And Master Roshi choosing pleasure over helping others? While it’s a funny twist on his character, it’s not at all how he would have acted in the original Dragon Ball series.
Cross Epoch is a crossover that entirely reimagines all the Dragon Ball characters, forcing them into the world of One Piece. They bear no resemblance to the characters we know and love, and their roles in the story are nonsensical and unexplained. There's no setup, no clear goal, and it's hard to figure out what's happening. The narrative jumps from one character interaction to another without any structure. The chapter is so uninspired and lacks effort and thought that even a fight scene wouldn't be worth reading—if there was one at all.
This might just be one of the shortest manga reviews I ever end up writing, because Cross Epoch essentially boils down to Dragon Ball Minus featuring One Piece characters... Or more accurately, a One Piece-inspired scenario with Dragon Ball characters awkwardly inserted into it.
The most underwhelming aspect of this one-shot has to be the story—or rather, the glaring lack thereof. You see, nothing really happens in Cross Epoch. It's merely a collection of "what-if" scenarios that throw both Dragon Ball and One Piece characters together (for example, Vegeta leads a pirate crew consisting of Usopp, Trunks, etc., but we're never told how or why this crew came to be). And to top it all off, it's incredibly short! While most one-shots typically span around 55-60 pages, Cross Epoch clocks in at a mere 19 pages.
On the bright side, the art is genuinely impressive, blending the best elements of Toriyama's and Oda's distinct styles. What surprised me most—and turned out to be the highlight of this one-shot—is that Toriyama draws the Dragon Ball characters while Eiichiro Oda handles the One Piece ones. This separation keeps their unique artistic styles intact, which feels refreshing and satisfying.
In conclusion, if you're curious about what Cross Epoch has to offer, feel free to check it out. It's not long, and the artwork is commendable. However, if you're hoping for a captivating story that seamlessly combines Dragon Ball and One Piece, this is definitely not the place to find it. Not by a long shot.
So I tracked this down after hearing it was a crossover between One Piece and Dragon Ball, because who wouldn't be intrigued by something like that? You have two incredible artists blending their beloved characters into what should be an amazing story, right?
Wrong.
The story is entirely random, and if I hadn't read One Piece or Dragon Ball, I would have been completely lost. It makes vague references to minor plot points from the original series, but it lacks the "pirates" or "Z-fighters" themes altogether. It's just a bunch of random characters going about their (presumably) daily routines. It's utterly plotless.
The art, however, is fantastic. It's beautifully drawn, the characters mesh seamlessly, and there's plenty of action in the background—very characteristic of the OP and DB series. In fact, the art is probably the best aspect of this manga, as it allows you to see (with official illustrations!) what the characters look like together.
The characters are also great. They retain the same personalities from their respective series, so if you haven't read One Piece or Dragon Ball before, you might not understand what's happening or why the characters act certain ways within the manga.
The enjoyment value was decent; after all, it's One Piece and Dragon Ball. Even if it's a completely off-the-wall story, it was entertaining to see some characters interact. Kudos to Sanji and Roshi hanging out—it was awesome.
Overall, if you've read Dragon Ball and One Piece, you should probably check out Cross Epoch just to say you did. It's not a great story, but it's still enjoyable to admire the art and see which characters Toriyama and Oda decided should pair up, based on their personalities and/or gender. It's not a groundbreaking narrative that you'll mine for profound plots, but I'd say it's worth a read.
do not read this book has never got finished and you will just be left hanging not knowing what happens next.... don't start writing a book if you're not going to finish it!! ????

This crossover consists of a single chapter and showcases the characters coexisting in the same world.
Each character from one series is paired with their 'counterpart' from the other series:
Luffy and Goku (the strongest/leads)
Zoro and Piccolo (the badasses)
Nami and Bulma (the 'babes')
Sanji and Roshi (the perverts)
Meanwhile, Vegeta acts as a lord alongside Robin, Usopp, and Trunks, who serve as his loyal crew.
It's incredibly entertaining and enjoyable.

Save yourself the trouble and skip this one.
